Osteopath advice on drinking

Although you may first visit an osteopath to treat a particular injury or condition, the focus of osteopathy is to help you to improve your overall health and well-being.

With the new year underway, you may be looking to kick-start 2018 with a range of healthier living decisions such as losing a little weight or doing a little more exercises. You may also be considering participating in the Dry January challenge, to go without alcohol for the whole month. Or maybe you are just looking to reduce how often and how much you drink.

If you have experience joint pain, excessive alcohol consumption can harm your bodies ability to repair, and can also interact badly with some medication.

Long term excessive drinking can also cause the following:

• Brain damage

• Increased risk of throat and mouth cancer

• Increased blood pressure and heart disease

• Inflammation of the stomach lining, stomach ulcers

• An increased risk of stomach and bowel cancer

• Liver damage and cancer

• Reproductive problems

• Mental health difficulties

If you want to have a healthier new year, speak to your osteopath about the many ways they can help you, and the steps that you can take to be a healthier you in 2018.
